If you are going through menopause, you’ve undoubtedly heard of black cohosh. It is a natural herb that is often recommended for hot flashes, PMS symptoms, and irregular menstrual bleeding. The use of black cohosh for hot flashes is by far the most common usage of this herbal remedy. One of the reasons it is so popular is that it is so easy to find. Most health food stores, and even mass retailers like Wal-Mart, stock hot flash herbal remedies that include black cohosh as an ingredient.

There have been studies of the effectiveness of black cohosh for hot flashes going back 40 years. Many women have embraced it as a treatment simply because it offers a nonhormonal alternative to estrogen or hormone replacement therapy. Also, black cohosh - unlike ERT - has not been shown to increase breast cancer risks or cause dysfunctional menstrual bleeding. Black cohosh is also reported to relieve other menopausal symptoms, such as weight gain, depression, breast tenderness, and mood swings.

The use of black cohosh for women’s health issues goes back hundreds of years. It was used by Native Americans to relieve both menstrual and menopausal symptoms. Women worldwide have been taking black cohosh for hot flashes for decades. As a folk remedy, it has also been used for bronchitis, fatigue, anxiety, and even snakebite. Early American doctors used it quite often as a remedy.

Who should not use black cohosh for hot flahes? If you are undergoing cancer treatment, you should not use black cohosh or other herbal treatments without first discussing their use with your doctor. Some herbs have been known to alter your body’s response to certain cancer drugs. Black cohosh should also not be used during pregnancy or while nursing.

There are a dizzying number of menopause remedies that contain black cohosh for hot flashes. One that I particularly recommend that you look at is Menozac. Besides containing black cohosh, Menozac contains Vitamin E, Soy, Damiana, and other herbs which help alleviate other menopausal symptoms as well.

Black cohosh for hot flashes has proven to be a very powerful remedy, and is easily available. It has been used without problems by women for decades in solving the age-old problem of hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms.
